The Fight Preview: Mikaela Mayer vs. Chantelle Cameron

Boxing is at its peak when the best face each other.

Saturday will illustrate that when Mikaela Mayer faces Chantelle Cameron in a 10-round, 154-pound unification bout on Saturday. Mayer (22-2, 5 KOs) is The Ring’s No. 3 pound-for-pound fighter, Cameron (22-1, 8 KOs) is No. 5.

The Ring's vacant junior middleweight crown will also be on the line between the top-two contenders.

36-year-old Mayer enters their contest as WBA and WBC champion, having won the then-vacant titles with a dominant decision over Mary Spencer on October 30 to become a three-division titleholder. Mayer, of Woodland Hills, California, has won three straight fights and will make her second appearance at 154 pounds.

Cameron, 35, has won four straight fights since suffering her lone loss, a majority decision defeat by Katie Taylor in November 2023. She remains the only fighter to defeat Taylor, whom she beat by majority decision in May 2023.

Cameron became a two-division titleholder in her last appearance, outpointing Michaela Kotaskova on April 5 in London for a title Mayer vacated in January before the pair faced off in the ring post-fight.

Mayer: “When I go in there this weekend, I’m going to start quick and fast from round one, not let anything get away from me ... and not leave it in the hands of the judges because you can't always trust them.”

Cameron: “I think Mikaela [Mayer] is very good and that's why I've always wanted this fight. I think she's brilliant and I'm actually a fan of hers. Even though I'm coming up against her, I'd watch Mikaela [Mayer] and enjoy her fights. That's why I want to fight her, because I want to fight the best.”

Mayer is a clear favorite at -240 odds, according to DraftKings Sportsbook. Cameron boasts +185 odds as the underdog.

A decision victory for Mayer is the most likely outcome at -160 odds. Mayer’s two losses were split decision defeats in the UK to Alycia Baumgardner in October 2022 and Natasha Jonas in January 2024.

Caroline Dubois makes her first defense as unified lightweight champion when she faces Amelia Moore (4-0, 1 KO) in the co-main event. Dubois (13-0-1, 5 KOs) beat Terri Harper by unanimous decision to become the WBC and WBO lightweight champion on April 5.

Dubois is on a collision course with unified 130-pound titleholder Alycia Baumgardner, who is moving up to lightweight to face IBF titleholder Elif Nur Turhan (14-0, 8 KOs) on November 8 at College Park Center in Arlington, Texas, on ESPN. If they both win their upcoming fights, a bout between Baumgardner (18-1, 7 KOs) and Dubois is one of the best fights that can be made in women’s boxing.
