One of the best fights that can be made in boxing could be on the horizon.
David Benavidez and Jai Opetaia faced off for the first time on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The Australian retained The Ring cruiserweight title and became the WBC champion after a ninth-round stoppage of Noel Mikaelian.
Benavidez (32-0, 26 KOs), who holds the WBA and WBO cruiserweight titles, said the fight against Opetaia (31-0, 24 KOs) should take place on Cinco De Mayo weekend at T-Mobile, too. Opetaia was more than willing to oblige and meet the Phoenix, Arizona, native on that weekend in May.
Few fights promise violence like one between Benavidez and Opetaia.
