Hamzah Sheeraz believes a fight against Canelo Alvarez will push him to his limits.
“Why not test myself against the best?” Sheeraz told The Ring’s Mike Coppinger Saturday night in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Sheeraz was in attendance as Alvarez (64-3-2, 39 KOs) once again became a world champion, beating Christian Mbilli by unanimous decision to capture the WBC super middleweight title.
“I’m in this game to be the best and to put myself in there with someone like the likes of Canelo," Sheeraz said. "That’s stuff you can only dream of.”
While the risk is worth the reward in the case of a fight with The Ring's top 168-pounder in Álvarez, Sheeraz didn't believe the same could be said for a clash with Janibek Alimkhanuly.
Sheeraz, The Ring’s No. 9 super middleweight, was ordered to defend his WBO title against the former unified middleweight champion, but he opted to vacate his belt rather than fight the Kazakh southpaw.
Now, Sheeraz has his eyes on Alvarez, who is hoping to make a quick turnaround and return in the first quarter of 2027.
The four-division champion has a plethora of options. But from the Londoner's standpoint, he’s incredibly close to landing his dream bout and is already preparing for it.
“Every day I’m waking up and training harder and harder,” Sheeraz said. “[Fighting Canelo] is starting to become a reality.”
